In a bid to invigorate economic relations, India and Canada have launched a joint trade and investment platform. This initiative is aimed at fostering direct communication among business communities and encouraging new investment opportunities. According to a joint statement released on Friday, this platform is expected to play a pivotal role in bringing the industry sectors of both nations closer and strengthening long-term business partnerships.

The announcement follows Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s official visit to Canada, which took place from May 25 to 27. During his visit, Goyal engaged in discussions with several key industry representatives and trade organizations. He also held significant bilateral meetings with Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, focusing on trade, investment, and economic cooperation.

The newly established trade and investment platform is designed to provide a collaborative space for Indian and Canadian business leaders. Its main objectives include identifying new business opportunities, promoting investments, and reinforcing commercial ties between the two countries. Officials believe that regular dialogue and direct contact will accelerate business activities and open up collaboration opportunities in new areas.

Beyond trade cooperation, both nations have agreed to enhance people-to-people connections, facilitating business travel, encouraging the mobility of professionals, and strengthening direct business relationships. These efforts are anticipated to create a conducive environment for investment and trade expansion.

During the discussions, both sides reiterated their commitment to advancing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), considered crucial for the economic ties between India and Canada. This agreement is expected to improve market access, strengthen supply chains, and enhance investment flows. Both countries have agreed to progress the talks and finalize the agreement by the end of this year, which could reduce trade barriers and create new economic opportunities across various sectors.

Canada’s International Trade Minister, Maninder Sidhu, also announced plans to lead a special trade delegation to India by the year’s end. The mission aims to connect Canadian companies with the Indian market and expand cooperation between the industries of both countries. Experts believe that these recent initiatives will reinforce economic ties between India and Canada, paving the way for collaboration in investment, manufacturing, technology, and other sectors. Both governments are keen on maintaining active business dialogues in the future.
